Two ACC rivals

Two ACC rivals look to get bowl eligible with a victory Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, North Carolina as Virginia travels to play a road game against Wake Forest.

Virginia (5-4, 3-2) had been rolling, winning four straight before losing a home game to Miami 24-17 last week. They will look to get back on track against a Wake Forest team, who despite winning last week, have sputtered lately, having lost three of their last five after starting the season 3-0, including a 12-3 road victory over Florida State, which is still one of only two Seminole losses on the season. Last week in the battle of North Carolina hellions, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons beat the Duke Blue Devils 33-30.

During that game senior quarterback Riley Skinner threw for 232 yards and one touchdown while halfback Brandon Pendergrass ran for 64 yards with a touchdown in the win. Freshman Pendergrass was filling in for injured starter Josh Adams, although the sophomore is not on the injury list for Saturday's contest.

Meanwhile Virginia's quarterback Marc Verica played well in a losing effort against the Hurricanes. Verica went 27 for 41 for 240 yards and a touchdown. He did not get much help from his backs. Cedric Peerman only rushed for 78 yards with no ground scores and Mikell Simpson rushed only four times for -5 yards. This poor rushing output is nothing new for the Cavaliers. They rank 108th in the nation in rushing and 113th in points scored.

The Virginia Cavaliers have taken three straight overall in the series, with the Deacons last victory coming in 2002 in a game played in Charlottesville. Virginia has taken four straight in the series in games played in Winston-Salem dating back to 1996.
